Karonde ka Achaar is a very simple but interesting and a unique pickle which tastes awesome. Karonde or Natal Plum pickle is quick to make as it gets ready to eat in just 2-3 days. Karonda is very easily available in market especially in summer season.

Ingredients:
Karonda - 100 gms
Cumin seeds/ Zeera - 1 tsp
Carom seeds/ Ajwain - 1 tsp
Salt -  tsp
Asfoetida/ Hing powder - 1/2 tsp
Methi dana - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds/ Rai - 1 tsp
Mustard oil - 1/2 cup

Method:
1. Boil karonde in sufficient water and cool it down. 
2. Simultaneously dry roast all condiments except asfoetida and grind to make a nice powder. 
3. Dry the karonda completely and remove the flower black cap from the each karonda.
4. Once dried, add the the prepared powder, red chili powder, salt. 
5. Add heated oil in the mixture. Mix well. Transfer the pickle in glass jar and keep in sunlight for 3 days. 


Gram Flour Oats Pancakes are very healthy, nutritious and healthy recipe which is my favourite. These act as good filler and you can have them for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. A wholesome recipe!!!

Ingredients:
Gram Flour/ Besan - 1 cup
Roasted Oats - 1/2 cup
Chopped Onions, Capsicum, Carrots- 1/2 cup each (quantity can vary) 
Chopped Ginger Garlic- 1 tsp
Salt, Red chilli powder - As per Taste

Method:
1. Prepare a batter of gram flour with water. Add roasted oats along with all other vegetable and spices. 
2. Heat a non-stick pan and grease with little oil, Pour the prepared batter to make small pancakes. Cook it till crisp from both sides. 
3. Serve hot crispy pancakes with tomato ketchup, curd or coriander chutney. 




After marriage, the first thing served to me at my in-laws place was "Gheur". To me it looked like a mesh dish which I was completely unaware. But when I tasted it, it was really nice, crunchy and different. This is what inspired me to learn this dish.
Gheur is an authentic, traditional dogri recipe from Jammu and Kashmir. Dogri people usually prepare gheur when new bride enters the house for the very first time or someone who comes home after very long time. It is like a welcome dish. Generally Gheur is served with potato curry vegetable but it can certainly be served as it is.

Ingredients:

Refined Flour - 1 cup
Salt - As per taste
Fresh peas - 1/2 Cup
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Oil for frying

Method:

1. Prepare a batter of refined flour and water. the consistency should neither be too thick nor too thin. Keep aside the batter for fermentation for about 1 hour.
2. Add cumin seeds and shelled peas in the batter. Mix well.
3. Heat oil in a kadai. When the oil reaches the smoking point, pour the batter with hands moving the hands to form a mesh structure. In the end make a boundary around the mesh structure using the same batter.
4. Fry only one side of gheur and using a knitting needle to remove gheur from the kadai. (Yes you heard me right. Knitting needle is used for frying instead of normal spatula.)
5. Serve gheur with potato curry.



    Garlic pickle is really very simple to make, if garlic is kept peeled and ready to use. The taste of garlic pickle will make you lick your fingers.

    Ingredients:

    Peeled Garlic cloves - 100 gms
    Salt, Red chilli powder, Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp each
    Mustard oil - 2 tbsp
    Fenugreek seeds/ Methi dana - 1 tbsp
    Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
    Asfoetida powder - 1/2 tsp
    White vinegar - 2-3 tsp

    Method:

    1. Microwave garlic cloves for 4-5 min and allow it to cool down for 1 hr at room temperature.
    2. Dry roast fenugreek seeds and grind to form a powder.
    3. Once garlic cloves cools down, add all spices along with fenugreek seeds powder and vinegar. Mix well.
    4. For tempering, heat mustard oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds and add asfoetida powder. Switch off the flame.
    5. Top this heated oil on the garlic mixture. Do not mix immediately. Leave it aside for some time, thereafter mix well and store the pickle in a airtight glass jar. Garlic pickle is ready.

    Another very effective home remedy to control blood sugar levels naturally. Prepare this diabetic special powder using Jamun Seeds. So do not discard the jamun seeds. It is equally effective to control diabetes. This powder is very easy to make and store.

    Ingredients:
    Jamun seeds (Black Berry seeds) - 1/2 kg

    Method:
    1. Take Jamun seeds and dry it under sunlight or at room temperature. Once dried, grind it in a mixer jar and prepare a powder.
    2. Sieve the powder using a mesh. Discard the left over.
    3. Drink 1 tsp of this powder with normal water everyday and any time of the day.

    This diabetic special drink will help control sugar levels, when suffering from diabetes. Simple juice recipe but very effective one

    Ingredients:
    Bitter gourd (Karela) - 1 pcs
    Tomato - 1 pcs
    Cucumber - 1/2 pcs

    Method:
    1. Wash all the ingredients nicely to remove all dirt. Do not remove the peels.
    2. In a chopper, add small pieces of all the ingredients and chop it. 
    3. Using a sieve, extract out the juice from the chopped vegetables. 
    4. Drink this juice regularly in the morning and you will surely get the benefit of this juice.  

    Note - Alternatively, one could also use a juicer to extract the juice.

    Ingredients:
    Oats - 1 cup
    Flaked Almonds - 1/4 cup
    Butter - 4 tbsp

    Home Remedy 1:
    1. Soak 1 tsp of fenugreek seeds (Methi dana) in 1 glass of water for 6-7 hours or overnight. 
    2. Drink this water empty stomach early morning and chew the seeds along. The seeds can also be used to make vegetables or add in the flour to make a dough. 
    3. Drink fenugreek water for at least 15-20 days regularly to effective results.

    Home Remedy 2:
    1. In a glass of warm milk, add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder. 
    2. Drink this turmeric milk either in the morning or before going to bed at night.

    Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
    White Split Urad dal - 1 tbsp

    Curry leaves - For garnishing

    Method:
    1. Soak barley grains in 1-2 cups of water for 1-2 hours. Pressure cook till 2 whistles. 
    2. In a pan, heat 1 tsp oil, splutter mustard seeds, roast split urad dal till it turns brown.
    3. Saute onions along with all vegetables. Add salt as per the taste and cook for 5 min.
    4. Add cooked barley grains and mix well. Cover the pan and cook for 5-6 mins. 
    5. Lastly squeeze lemon juice and serve hot. Garnish with curry leaves. Enjoy a healthy breakfast!!!
